Natural rubber has a series of excellent physical and mechanical properties and is the rubber with the best comprehensive properties.
Natural rubber has both advantages and disadvantages. Below we briefly introduce the advantages, disadvantages and applications of natural rubber.
First, the advantages of natural rubber
1. High mechanical strength, it can be crystallized when stretched under the action of external force, the crystallinity is small,
and it is greatly affected by temperature, resulting in self-reinforcing effect. The tensile strength of pure rubber vulcanizate is 17~25MPa,
and the carbon black reinforced vulcanizate can reach 25~35MPa.
2. Good flexural fatigue resistance, small hysteresis loss, low heat generation during multiple deformations; good cold resistance,
excellent air tightness, waterproofness, electrical insulation and thermal insulation properties.
3. Good elasticity, the elastic modulus is about 1/30000 of steel, and the elongation is 300 times that of steel.
Elongation up to 1000%. The rebound rate can reach more than 50%~80% in the range of 0~100℃.
Second, the disadvantages of natural rubber
The disadvantage of natural rubber is poor oil resistance, ozone aging resistance and thermal oxygen aging resistance.
Natural rubber is non-polar rubber, so it is easily soluble in non-polar organic solvents such as gasoline and benzene.
Natural rubber contains unsaturated double bonds, so it is chemically active. In the air, it is easy to carry out a chain reaction
of autocatalytic oxidation with oxygen, causing molecular chain scission or excessive cross-linking, and rubber adhesion or cracking,
that is, aging. The rubber without anti-aging agent is exposed to the sun for 4 to 7 days, and cracks occur;
cracks occur within a few seconds of contact with ozone. Adding antioxidants can improve its aging resistance.
3. Application
Natural rubber is one of the most versatile general-purpose rubbers. It is widely used in the manufacture of various tires
and various industrial rubber products, such as hoses, tapes, latex gloves, etc. In addition, natural rubber is also widely used in daily necessities.
